September 13th would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th Birthday! Brave Oopma Lompas have actually been seen jumping out of planes to celebrate the author’s birthday and to raise money for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Whipple-scrumptious! This year, is also, 50 years since Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was published in 1964.
Nearly 100 years after his birth, Roald Dahl’s stories continue to inspire children and adults around the world. The Willy Wonka Candy Company was first imagined in the pages of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now it’s your turn to inspire the world with an imagined confection! Is a chocolate waterfall? An everlasting gobstopper? What does your dream candy look like? What is it made of? What does it taste like? What is it called? Be original and dream BIG!

Ask students to illustrate their confection. Ask them to write a brief description of their confection using the questions above to guide their writing. Using an iPad, iPhone or iPod take a picture of each student’s imagined creation. Upload the images to the app, 30Hands. 30hands is a free innovative storytelling app that allows students, teachers and anyone with creativity to easily create narrated stories or presentations based on photos, images, drawings or video clips. Once the images are upload to the App, record each student’s voice as they explain their delectable treat! When all voices have been recorded, export your video!
